THE BLUNT FRONT

blunt umbrellas

Take the hazard out of rainy days with this blunt-tipped umbrella.

The poke-friendly umbrella features telescopics ribs supported by high-strength struts.

Not only do blunt tips eliminate the sharp spikes, but they also make for a rather modern new shape for an age-old canopy.

PUTTING THE PEDAL TO THE METAL

tonkinliu

A 14-metre-tall steel carnation has popped up on a riverbank in Cheshire, England.

Created by local firm Tonkin Liu, Future Flower features perforated petals that glow at night, thanks to 60 LEDs powered by three small wind turbines affixed to the stem.

Sorta gives new meaning to the term “flower power,” n’est-ce pas?

ZAHA’S JEWELS

zaha hadid jewellery

Zaha Hadid has added another project to her crown of built forms.

The flamboyant architect’s new jewelry line features crystals embedded in fluid shapes molded from resin.

The line includes two cuffs, two rings, a pendant and necklace, and are available in five colours: crystal, gold, jet, opal and flame.

As one might expect from the cape-wearing architect, each piece expresses the same daringness that can be seen in her large-scale work.

LIGHT LUSTRE

bleunature lustre natsiq

By repeating a pure geometric form, France’s Bleu Nature archives a Mondrian feel with its Lustre Natsiq 3 LED chandelier.

It features a trio of claddings (weathered plank, carrara marble and grey-blue linen) and hangs from a lacquered steel frame.

Simple. Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
