Takumi Shimamura is behind the inspired Monacco collection.

Initially working with Subaru on advanced car design, the Japanese designer has designed everything from a robotic lawn mower to a futuristic bus seat before turning his hand to revolutionizing an indigenous Japanese wood.

A collaboration between and local wood producer Ecoasu Umazimura, Monacca is the brand name for products made of thinned Japanese cedar from the Umaji village.

The result is a futuristic collection consisting of bags, chairs, lights, laptop cases and even cushions that not only emphasize the beauty of wood but also broaden its appeal.
